Winter sports teams staying active for Riverbank

Though school remains out for the winter break, Riverbank High School athletes still got to compete in some preseason tournaments over the holiday week, after Christmas.

 

Bruin Basketball

At the Oakdale Rotary Tournament, the Bruins boys opened up play on Thursday, Dec. 26, as they took a 64-33 loss to Ripon in varsity boys basketball action. Friday, Dec. 27 the were outscored by Ripon Christian, 73-35, in the tournament. Finally, they wrapped up the event with a game against Escalon, that contest on Saturday, Dec. 28. The Cougars put away the Bruins by a 61-23 final.

This week on Friday, Jan. 3, they’ll travel to Delhi for a 7 p.m. preseason game.

 

Lady Bruin Basketball

Taking the court on Thursday, Dec. 26, the RHS varsity girls basketball team defeated Orestimba, 64-26, continuing their winning streak. Then on Friday, Dec. 27, they beat Patterson, 56-39, for their seventh win in a row. Unfortunately, the varsity girls then fell, 60-46, to Mountain House on Saturday.

This Friday, they’ll host Liberty Ranch from Galt, at 6 p.m.

 

Bruin Soccer

The Bruin soccer boys were to host Sierra at 12:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon, then host River Islands from Lathrop on Friday at 3 p.m.

 

Lady Bruin Soccer

Girls soccer is scheduled to host River Islands on Friday, Jan. 3 but with an earlier start time, at 1 pm.

Back on Friday, Dec. 27, Riverbank’s varsity girls fought to a tie with Foothill High School of Sacramento, 3-3.
