Riverbank sports teams are nearing the end of their winter season, as league play continues, both home and away. Basketball, soccer and wrestling are the Bruin winter sports.
Lady Bruin Basketball
The Riverbank girls continued their winning ways this past week, with victories on both the home and road courts.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, they dominated Summerville on the home court in Riverbank, 69-9, then traveled to Linden to do the same to the Lady Hawks, with a 69-4 Mother Lode League win on Friday, Feb. 7. The Lady Bruins were leading the MLL standings, with eight wins and no losses, setting their sights on the title during their first season in the league.
This week, the varsity girls were to travel to Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp on Feb. 11, then host Big Valley Christian High School from Modesto on Feb. 14, for their final regular season home game. It will also be observed as Senior Night and the girls will take the court at 6 p.m.
Bruin Basketball
The boys varsity team hosted Linden on Friday, Feb. 7, but fell to the visiting Lions by a 60-43 final. They were to host Bret Harte’s Bullfrogs on Feb. 11, and will be back on the home court for the regular season finale and Senior Night festivities on Friday, Feb. 14. Big Valley Christian out of Modesto will come to town for the contest, with tip off set for 7:15 p.m.
Bruin Soccer
The varsity soccer boys fell at Summerville High in Tuolumne County on Tuesday, Feb. 4, losing there in a shutout by a 5-0 final. They also took a 6-3 loss at Linden to close out the week.
They were to host their final regular season home match against Hughson for Senior Night on Feb. 10, with Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs to start on Friday, Feb. 14.
Lady Bruin Soccer
Riverbank girls fell to Summerville on the home pitch Tuesday, Feb. 4 in a 6-0 contest, but won at Linden on Saturday, 1-0, in Mother Lode League play. Their Senior Night game was to be Tuesday, hosting Ben Holt Academy from Stockton.
Bruin Wrestling
The wrestling team competed recently at the Mother Lode League Championships and had four individuals qualify to the divisional tournaments coming up this weekend.
Tomas Sandoval, Alex Melo, Xavier Lopez, and Antoinette Wilkerson all advanced to the divisionals.
Sandoval was the MLL Champion in the 177-pound weight class.
Sac-Joaquin Division V individual championships for the boys are scheduled at Calaveras High School Friday and Saturday.
Girl wrestlers have their divisionals on the same days, at Central Valley High School in Ceres.
Bruin Baseball
Spring sports was to begin gearing up for Riverbank, with a home, non-league game against Waterford on the schedule for Feb. 11.
